Girder and Joist

Use this joke when you want to point out the danger of stereotyping (substitute Robin for your favourite stereotype).

Robin was unemployed and had few qualifications, so he decided to apply for a job as a labourer at a local building site.

The foreman wasn't too sure about Robin's experience, so he decided to ask him a simple test question: ‘What is the difference between a girder and joist?’

‘That's easy,’ replied Robin, ‘Goethe wrote Faust and Joyce wrote Ulysses!’
